After the kerfuffle with pH going left right and centre, finally some good stuff on the horizon! I've finally secured funding for my chiller and a new filter to replace my AquaOne F103 (Curse its existence if it doesn't get through the night without committing suicide once again!), and I'd be grateful for any suggestions:happy:...

Tank: 200L/4ft
Tank pop: 3 axies (Will go up to six with summer/next freakout statistics), Red cherry shrimp and guppies.

In other news, in around a month, anyone want to buy an AquaOne filter off me? (works fine without the pantyhose bag, but I like my shrimp)

From my personal experience, I've never had any issues with aqua one filters. I have a 6 foot tank at my dads place running 2 aqua one canisters, they've been running without any hitches for well over 4 years.

My axie tank has a bult in wet/dry trickle filter, and it's fantastic, easily the best filter I've ever used.

I've heard that the ehiem canisters are very good, I've never used one before though.

I am a HUGE fluval fan. I have a fluval 205, 305, and soon to get a 405...they are incredibly well made and do an amazing job at keeping tanks pristine.

Ooh, thanks for all the advice so far! Anyone know about hooking these filters into a chiller? This summer it was up to 46c here in Sydney, so a chiller is the non-negotiable part of the set up...

You run your chiller off your filter; tank - filter - chiller - tank, all connected by hoses which you can purchase per length at your local aquarium.
I found a relatively cheap chiller on Guppy’s Aquarium Products Online , living in qld it was given I had one.

Sweet, but what type of filters work best for that kind of set up (And hopefully don't chop up innocent shrimp and baby guppies)? I really want to get this right so that in fifty years when I'm on the twentieth generation of axies (I hope I'll be able to keep a line going that long!) the system's still working relatively well...
Oh! And found this Hailea http://www.guppysaquariumproducts.com.au/chilling-heating/hailea-chillers/hailea-hc-150a-1/10hp-chiller-marine-aquarium-to-400l/prod_38.html which looks like the best bet (my LFS doesn't carry anything close to my tank's capacity under $600....) So this is what I'd be feeding into (Not sure if it makes a difference, but thought it'd be best to link it through regardless :) )

I bought a Hailea HC150 from Guppys online last April for my 3ft tank. It hasn't skipped a beat since. A chiller is a great investment to take all the worry away for your beloved axies for the 3 summer months. I've hooked it inline with an external eheim cannister filter. Good luck.

Ooh! What model Eheim do you have? How is it in terms of general maintenance? (Btw, thanks for the feedback on the Hailea-I'm pretty certain it's the one I'm going to get :D!)
Also, to anyone who might know, what are the advantages of UV light in the filtration process?
