Hi, sorry about all the questions, but I can't find specific enough info on this elsewhere. I went to a petshop today to inquire about filters, and ended up with a EHEIM sponge internal filter. It says it is for tanks up to 200l and has an adjustable flow rate between 220-570 l/h. I have a 3ft tank (1ft wide) and I'm guessing its about 120l?? Is this filter suitable for the tank or will it be too harsh? I know that axis don't like strong currents, and I don't want to upset them! Thank you.

What kind of filter? Is this an in-tank filter where it moves water through a sponge in the tank? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. Axies don't like being hit with a ton of moving water, but even flow from an external filter is fine if they can choose to avoid it.

If it filters the tank, and the axie can hide from it if necessary, and he doesn't seem to care about it...then it doesn't matter. They will avoid things that stress them.

If a filter is rated for a larger tank, it can heat the water pretty significantly. Be aware of that, especially if your water is already on the warmer side.

Hi, thanks for your advice. I tried to put the filter in the tank today and it is far too big, so I have taken it back and got a much smaller sponge and charcoal fluvul u2 filter with a spray bar. I am sure he will be much happier now!
