Hi guys and gals
out of the first lot i had hatch, 105 in total, i still have 89 still fighting fit now 4 weeks on, but just to top it all off my other axolotl decided to have eggs to, they have also hatched and i have 343 more baby axies swimmingaround, all bout 1 week old now,
Is it normal for axolotls to have that many babies?
how many can they have up to?
also my leusistic had the last lot with a gold male but they all look dark will they be wild types?

Well is you go at a speed of 1 a second prob 343 seconds :p

Axolotls can lay up to 1,000 eggs every month or so. I'd seriously quit trying to raise eggs. If you're raising more than a few dozen, you'll either have severe overcrowding and death from cannibalism and disease, or you'll have deaths from poor water quality because you'll be unable to change the water in 400 tiny tubs. Or they'll starve because you can't keep enough tiny live food around for them to eat.

I never recommend raising more than a few dozen. I only raised 8 and it was crazy. It took me 6 months to get rid of all of them.

thanks for the replay guys, it took me a couple of hours to count them as i put them into groups of 10 in different containers, feeding them and water changes is a pain in the but that is for sure, but i have plenty of room for them so all is good, couldnt take on any more though.

feeding them on daphnia and other micro organisms, from my back yard fish pond, and mosquito larvae and some brineshrimp so they have a good mixed diet,

have no worries getting rid of them, just the time consuming taking care of so many, first 100 werent that bad but the next 300 WOW.

Thanks again for all your replies, only new to this forum but everyone has been so great and so helpful so thanks again

Keep us posted on how you get on with raising so many Orga! Genuinely interested on how you get on mate.
