Hi there!

I spent the last week doing some field work in Gerês area in Northern Portugal (although not working with amphibians) and did some nice observations, mostly anurans. I also got some nice photos of habitats where I found loads of frogs but only found one newt...

So, my species list was:
Triturus marmoratus (the only one)
Rana perezi (very common)
Rana iberica
Alytes obstetricans obstetricans
Discoglossus galganoi

I found all the species on the same area and using the same stream

Hi Filipe,
very pretty the photographs...you take the marmoratos for you??hehehe

regards
Ana

Hey Ana,

as you know European (and national) laws forbid to take animals like Triturus marmoratus from the wild, and it is not necessary as they are bred well in captivity in Germany, Netherlands, Spain, France etc. So please, don't make jokes like this.

Greetings, sergé.
P.s. nice pictures!

Sergé

Hi Ana!

No, I didn't take the T. Marmoratus... first, as Sergé correctly stated it's forbidden by national laws to collect or keep wild animals (including amphibians). Second, the animal was swimming at the bottom of a cold freezing river and completely out of my reach

Sergé and Filipe,
i know that it is forbidden..i know that the amphibians also are protecting species...bad joke.
sorry

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
