Hi there,
I have some questions that apparently Google can't answer so I thought I would enlist some help from you guys.

I have managed to settle my axie in now (been about a month) but I have a couple of things that id like to know.
Firstly, I believe that my axie is a boy based on my relentless internet research. Is there a definite way to tell?
Secondly, is there a way to tell how old an axie is ? I've read that their diet and how often and how much they eat greatly varies depending on age. Axies previous owners do not know how old he is. For reference, his toes are darkened, and he is developing freckles on his face, I would say this has happened in the last 2-3 weeks.
Thirdly, how much would you recommend feeding? He is on a diet of dendrobaena worms (finally found something he likes) he was on pellets when he came to me but refused to eat them.
Thank you guys for your help.

Hello there!

That baby sure is cute. As far as I know, a female axolotl has like a little bump between her legs and the tail. Male’s on the other hand have a big bump and is a bit longer and bigger. I will put photos so you can maybe try and find out. Secondly, if you haven’t got informations about the axolotl ( his age,etc..) from the past owner, then there isn’t an exact way of telling the age. But you could search up on the internet, it helped me a bit. You can take a ruler and look at how long your axolotl is, then search up “what age is an axolotl when they are (….) cm long”. If he’s on a diet, then I would recommend giving about 4-6 worms. If he’s a big boy and can eat many worms, then you can go ahead and give him more AS LONG as he can eat it and he doesn’t try to spit it out or he gets too big ( if you know ).

Correct me if I’m wrong on any of these, I’m not an expert but I still try to help!

This first one is a boy, the second one a girl. Since they’re still babies you can’t really see it but I think it’s should be understandable..

Hi thank you for replying.
Based on your photos and what I've previously read I'm going to say I'm pretty sure he's a boy. My son named him Sam as a gender neutral name since we weren't sure, it suits him 🤣.
I thought this might be the case with his age since they all grow at different rates etc anyway, I was more curious than anything. I will continue to feed him the way I have been and just monitor his size and adjust amounts if I need to.
Thank you again. X

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
