Hey guys just a few questions regarding feeding, well here they go...

how soon after hatching am i able to start feeding them there live BBS?
how often should i feed?
how much of food should i give them every feed?
is it possible to over feed the hatchlings?
are the bbs left uneaten bothering the babies(asking because i noticed one attached to the gills of one of em)?

thanks in advance for the help guys

*Newly hatched axolotls don't eat for the first 24-72hrs, as they are still absorbing the yolk. This doesn't mean that you can't offer food to them though ;)

*They should be fed twice per day at that age (and will only eat live food - BBS or tiny daphnia)

*I can't answer about how much, but see my answer for your next question for a tip ;)

*I don't know for definate, but don't think you can overfeed newly hatched axolotls, as they aren't hand-fed, so they just "graze" on any live food that happens to swim past them (so you need quite a high ratio of BBS, to ensure the babies get plenty of opportunities!)

*The baby axolotls would just move out of the way if bothered by BBS. BBS need removing regularly, as they live in salt water, so will die in the freshwater (is that the right word?!) that the axolotls require + will foul the water if left to rot in there. The do tend to die rather quickly, so give the babies time to feed, then do your water changes / maintenence.

i have only one hatchling of 14 so far and i offered bbs as son as i noticed he had hatched and he was definitely eating, does this mean he has probably been ready to hatch for a while and maybe just had a hard time getting free of the egg?

oh and thank you once again for the very helpful info you have provided already

does anybody know for sure that you CAN'T overfeed newly hatched axies?

You can't.

I use daphnia, and have always provided plentiful amounts of food and allowed them to graze. I've never lost a little one to overfeeding.

Live. Axolotls won't normally take non-living food until after they've grown all their legs.

Newly hatched axolotls will almost never eat non-living food.

thank you very much Kaysie that helps
