hello everyone i have a friend that recently told me that she feeds her aquatic newts fluke worms. I dont know if this is kosher, but in my opinion this is not a good thing. what does everyone else think of parasites being fed to newts and sals. Personally i think they can be vectors for disease.

feed your pets parasites? i'll just eat some tapeworms for dinner.

Jesse,
Did your friend mean planaria? Both flukes and planaria are of the Phylum Platyhelminthes.

Where does your friend get fluke worms? The blackworms I use contain some fluke worms (look like small leeches) and they seem harmless enough. As long as they don't parasitize newts, they are probably fine.

Hi Jen,
They are leeches except that they feed on the blackworms.

no
she gets fluke worms and leeches from turtles and feed them to her newts

I always wondered what those little white guys were in with the blackworms....my fish will eat them, but only when the blackworms are all gone. I thought they might be leeches; they look too big to feed on blackworms!

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
