I know I ask a lot of questions. This is the first full week we have been in a terrestrial environment and I am going through feeding live worms. The first time I fed him meal worms and was told that is not a good thing to feed. I bought some red wigglers - soaked them for about 30 minutes ( I read that would get rid of the nasty taste) I even cut them because they seem to be a little big.... Finally my question..... Is it normal for them to shake their head back and forth really hard...( like a dog playing with a sock ) while he eats the worm. After he gets it in his mouth he kind of bobs his head a little bit. Also, he does not go for these the same way he did the meal worms, I'm thinking he must not like them. And... how long can the worm pieces stay out before they are dead?

And... how long do you wait between worms?

It's normal for them to shake their heads like a great white, and he'll let you know when he's hungry! Just don't let him get to be disgustingly obese. He likes them just fine I'm sure.

When you section the worm, feed the tail end first and keep the half with the "bulge" which will remain alive and can use for the next feeding. I recommend feeding twice a week, though it will desire more frequent feeding. If it is young, every other day is fine, till it is older and larger.
The next time you buy worms, get Candian Nightcrawlers, Lumbricus terrestris. Not sure of the size of your tiger, but if necessary section them in thirds rather than halves.

Red wigglers are best fed whole. When cut they exude a substance that many sals find distasteful. As RPM stated, try pieces of nightcrawlers.
