Hi All, I currently have 40 larvae that have hatched within the last 4 days. I bought them from someone on this forum and they were farther along in development than I expected, they started hatching the night I bought them!

So, needless to say I was not quite ready yet with the live food....

I happened to have some frozen BBS and figured I would give those a shot until my BS eggs hatched. I ended up using an air pump w/air stone to gently circulate the frozen BBS (or sometimes just my finger) and to my surprise they have been eating it!

I wanted to let all of you know about this discovery as it may help someone else who finds themselves without food for their hatchlings. I found the frozen BBS at Petsmart, not sure who else carries it but might be worth keeping some in the freezer just in case of emergencies.

Obviously I cannot guarantee that it will work for everyone, but it is definitely worth a shot...

i recommend getting some microworm to have on hand im not so sure the frozen food will work as they need live moving foods but yes worth a shot. good luck

As long as it moves baby axies will go for it - if you can get them to go for frozen food by making it move manually that good news. You could also try them with daphnia.

But you should be able to hatch some BS eggs within 24 hours - try warming up your hatchery a little to speed up the process a little. I've also heard that using sea water gives better and faster result too.
