Feeding daphnia to larvae

If I just directly squirt daphnia + their water in with the axies, will the active yeast i am feeding the daphnia hurt the larvae? I figured it would make sense to have the daphnia's food in the water with them so they have something to eat until they get eaten, but I didn't know if the yeast would harm the axie babies. Thank you!!

the yeast may foul the water, just rinse them off and stick them in with the axie larvae.

I don't think my net is small enough to catch the tiny things swimming in there that I can barely see with my own eyes. pantyhose, maybe? plus, I just got a culture, so it's not ready to harvest, I was only putting a little bit in with the larvae so they didn't starve. i'm not even sure if they are eating yet, they hatched just a few days ago.

Other than possible fouling of the water, would the yeast itself hurt the axies?

The yeast won't hurt them directly, but I would still vote to rinse the daphnia before use. Even w/o yeast, daphnia can still live for several days/weeks in the tank. Most petshops in the US sell brine shrimp nets; these are fishnets with a white fabric-like netting, which is perfect for daphnia. Until you find one, pantyhose work too, I've done this. You can line the inside surface of a strainer (or a regular fishnet) with the nylon material.

Thanks!! I'm just getting really worried because I don't have a large amount of daphnia and 30 mouths to feed =/ I think I'm going to go to the petstore in a little bit anyway, I'll look for a brine shrimp net. originally, that's what i thought i had bought, but no.. bah.

If you are running short on daphnia, it's worth trying to find a local source of live blackworms (some shops call them live bloodworms, same thing). The most likely shops to sell them are independently-owned tropical fish shops. You may have to phone quite a few (and talk to clueless employees who think you are crazy) until you find a source.

I only know of one independant shop here, I go there all the time, they only have live adult brine shrimp. plenty of frozen things, but that's it. i might have better luck down south when i go tomorrow. i'm going to try collecting from a lake near my house back home as well. as a last resort.

My strategy for finding blackworms is to type into Google:
"tropical fish" 12345
(with the number being your zip code)
For any major metro area, this search brings up a list of shops (with phone numbers and maps) sorted by distance from your zip code. It's well worth calling a bunch of them before driving around.

The daphnia should live with the hatchlings for a few days - at least (and breed giving you microscopic little ones). I've used kitchen roll - rather than a net in the past. Takes a little longer, but does the trick.

Hope this helps. Phil

sorry for going of subject here but would kitchen roll work with BBS?
