Feed my axolotl pellets or wormies?

First post here ever! Woo! So, I'm about to buy an axolotl (my tank is all cycled and ready), but I'm still a little unsure about food. I've seen somewhere that worms are okay for juveniles, but then I see that most people give them pellets. Would a 3inch axie be able to eat chopped up worms (earth worms at that)? Or are pellets better, especially if they were raised on them? Hope I didn't misplace this.

I feed both but use more salmon pellets than worms. I like to raise my own belgian earthworms on vegetable scraps. Salmon pellets are real easy for a quick feed.

I only feed mine worms - bloodworms until they are big enough for earthworms. At 3 inches they should be able to take chopped earthworms no problem. My 4" babies can take whole small worms, and generally they can take worms as long as they are once they get the hang of live wriggly wormies.

However, I do keep a stash of pellets in case my worm farm crashes.

I've heard worm dirt smells....is that true? I guess it would, especially with old food in it

That's a relief to know. And the backup pellets is a good idea.

A properly maintained worm farm has very little odor. It is a great ecological experiment. If it starts to stink you need to adjust your techniques.

A worm farm shouldn't smell if done correctly - if it smells you're adding more food than the worms can process.

What types of worms do you farm? Is there a good post on the forums about setting this up?

i feed mine chopped up earth worms with chop sticks... they eat really well from chop sticks.. they don't like my hands near them lol.
