Hi guys, i've been looking at the forums here for a while....2-3 months? and JUST REGISTERED! hehe. and i was wondering if all of you can show me a picture of your semi aquatic or vivarium tanks please! ill show you mines as soon as i figure out this camera haha. THANKS!

Hi Khanh,

Here's a picture of the tank I keep my chinese fire belly in. The tank is 30 Litres, which I think is about 8 US Gallons. There's 8 inches of water with a plastic tree root for an island, which she loves and spends a lot of her time on top of. The plants are mostly silk but there's some live Java fern and also dried fern I got from a petshop. I have a fluval 1+ filter.

I've actually changed the setup just slightly since this photo was taken so the tree trunk is now over to the right with the rocks and plants mostly over to the left so that I can feed her on the bare glass around the island.

If anyone has any comments, I'd love to hear them.

what kind of plants are those...lovely setup i just posted a picture of my tank if you wanna take a look lol.

great tank! My CO would love to go there for a vacation. Her tank is quite pathetic. poor her.

Thanks! i put hard effort into it...its still not completed...im adding some more plants and some fishies for decor.

Thanks, the plants you can see at the bottom are fake silk plants I bought in a pet shop and the dark stuff floating down from the island is dried fern, also from the petshop.

I took a look at your tank too, it's a really nice setup you have, I think I should be taking tips from you not the other way round!

I have tried feeding frozen bloodworm and live earthworms. Adara seems to be a bit of a fussy eater though. A lot of people on this site suggest feeding with tweezers but I haven't had any success with that unfortunately. She won't eat on land at all. The only time I have ever seen her eat is in the water. I've tried cutting up the earthworm and putting it on her island only to have to clean it up later and she doesnt seem too interested in that in the water either. She likes the bloodworm though. My latest tactic to get her to eat was trying to put a whole earthworm in to see how she reacted and she tried to bite it right away!

unfortunately it was too big for her but the movement got her attention and she started chomping the bloodworms at that point. I think most people agree that earthworms are ideal though, they're very nutritious so I would go with that. What have you been feeding so far?

well for the past months ive been jut feeding it pellets and just started feeding him brine shrimp which he isnt touching....i juut dont know...and none of the pet shops here carry earthworms.

you should be able to get frozen bloodworm from a pet shop, and I'm pretty sure that would be better than pellets. As for earthworms, have you tried bait shops? I get my mine mail order from a company specialising in live feeds etc but I doubt that will do you much good since they are UK based. Maybe someone in your area can make a recommendation? The other alternative is to go out into your back garden and dig em up

(only if no pesticides have been used on the land)

YAY i got some earthworms! from petsmart! luckily they just started selling all WORMS live last week. YAY! lol. so im gonna try it out i told them if i can buy small earthworms and they look small enough for my newt to bite ^^. and i just bought some stuff ill show a recent tank setup!

YAY! my newt loves it! i guess hell eat anything that wiggles! he was staring at the plants i just put in and i dropped a earthworm in he stared at it...seen it moving and BAM! it was gone into his tummy! lol. now my newt is gonna be super healthy. i gave him some live brine shrimp i got from petco but he didnt like it so earthworms is the way to go for me!

oo one question...are earthworms just as excellent as nightcrawlers? im just wondering because the earthworms wasnt on the foods list.

My fire bellied newt setup: 20g, small world filter, turtle dock, decorative log, some fake plants, a water sprite plant, a cave.
