Well, one of my axies is looking pretty fat these days. I don't know if it's male or female. His/her stomach is becoming wider than his/her head. It never used to be that fat, and I haven't been feeding it any more than usual. It's about 9 months old, and I have it in a tank with two others, one of the same size & age and one slightly smaller & a few months younger. I have no idea if it's eggs or what, but that's just my shot in the dark. It could be nothing, but I just want to check. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to these things. I mean, I know well enough how to take care of them and everything, but gender, breeding, and all that... not a clue.

The males have a large cloaca. It's about 4 times the size (or bigger) of a female's and swells when they are mating.

Axies can reach maturity in 6 - 18 months. Since yours is 9 months old a widening of the body is probably just your female beginning to produce eggs which means that she is more or less mature.

unless you have seem spermatophores in the tank (jelly sperm tipped cones) she most likely isn't pregnant as they tend to lay fairly soon, in around 48hrs, after picking them up.

hope that helps
