He's been underground since October and just today he decided to come out---I swear these guys are better than the groundhog at figuring out when springtime is near! Fatboy is no way as colorful as Christian's tigers, but I'll post him anyway, I love his little rubbery self.

I think the markings are cool! Very interesting.

I love the marking of your Tiger, I would love to keep one like yours.. two of my male tigers are in their tunnelnetwork for almost a month, the two BIG female's more like walking in my tank, and one young male's like's to run for food like a crocodile.

BTW, my once so colorfull tigers are starting to get a bit grey like the darker female.

What foods do they most like to eat? Is it hard to get them to eat a worm? I have to string a cricket on a thread right next to a worm (on the thread) so that when Fatboy goes for the cricket he accidentally also eats the worm! Otherwise, I think he would just eat crickets, and I am wanting to get some variety (and a good amount of calcium) in his diet. Do your tigers have different eating habits from one another?

Leanne, in my limited experience with tigers I've found them to eat worms, waxworms, and crickets all fairly well. If he doesn't like worms and you want a healthy source of calcium you can try Rep-Cal dust. It's what I use with my Geckos, Toads, and Salamander.

I feed my tigers cricket's, Baby mice, worms, chicken filet(boiled), and other insects that will fit in their mouth...They will eat everything that fits...

Worm's are not the favorite food of my tigers.

My tiger do not like worms too!!! he loves crickets and chicken!!! Leanne, is it a A. tigrinum utahensis isnt it? My fat one is! And he looks like yours!

Hmm, never heard of A. tigrinum utahensis, but maybe that is what Fatboy is! Always thought he was A. maculatum, but he never really quite fit those markings, so that would explain it---do you have any photos of your tigers, Felipe?

How do you guys get them to eat chicken?? Do you have to wiggle it so it looks like it's alive? Baked or raw? Dark meat or white? Cool, man!!

Well, here are a couple more pictures, mainly to illustrate the pvc pipe that connects Fatboy's "duplex apartment" consisting of 2 rubbermaid tubs, heheh! He goes freely back and forth between the two tubs and knows exactly where all his hiding places are in both enclosures:

You mean A. mavortium? A. maculatum is the spotted salamander, not a tiger at all.

Nice pics, I feed my tigers little pieces of boiled chicken out of my hand, they will eat everything out of my hand including my fingers!!

I hope my two other male's will come out of their tunnel soon

Joan, you're right----got my species mixed up there. Heheh.

Wow Christian, I wish Fatboy were that voracious!!

If you feed Fatboy out of your hands from now on, he will get used to it and be a killer like mine are

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
