I know the picture is dark but I still think it shows how fat the babies are. I see no signs of legs yet but they are only one week old. They are about 15-17 mm long, I estimate.

Thank you, Ben. Luckily for me, the little corner pet shop always has lots of live food. The first weekend was a bit rough because they only had one bad of Daphnia and so I bought red and white mosquito larvae, tubifex (which immediately sank to the bottom of the tank and half-buried themselves in the sand), and whiteworms. The moquito larvae were roughly the same size as the axolotls, but the axolotls ate them anyway (although it took awhile). Now we're back in red Daphnia again and there is lots of activity and the wee ones are so fat!

I'll update as soon as there's anything to report. Thanks again,

The little ones are looking good!

I would advice against the sand on the bottom. For the first months I use bare bottom, that is much easier to clean up and you will have to clean it every day.

I'm glad to hear that they're looking good; I have no previous experience.

The babies are currently in mesh baskets (nursery baskets, I saw someone write somewhere) hanging from the side of the parents' aquarium. As Axel and Lotte produced a tankful of eggs twice within three weeks, I have now ordered a second aquarium, which will be delivered Friday, to separate them and to provide more room for any babies that survive my loving care. I should mention here, in a cry for sympathy, that three months ago I had zero experience with aquariums whatsoever and have thus far only been lucky I haven't unintentionally killed anything.

I have read that bare glass is bad for the axolotls as it does not offer adequate foothold for them..?

...photo of your "little chubbies" is making me broody! Hope mine spawn soon :)

Wish I had known that two days ago. We just sent six plants' worth of eggs to a better world (a pot of pond plants on the balcony) (like Acrisius, leaving them to the will of the gods).
