It's been a long time since I posted. Sadly, my almost 4 year old red spotted newt, Paul, passed on today. I suspected he was ill, but he had always bounced back. Even though it is too late for Paul, I hope to introduce some more newts into the family soon. Does anyone in the Long Island area know of a vet who is knowledgable and treats newts? Previously when my newts were ill, I had visited an animal hospital and two private vets. The hospital and one of the vets really didn't help. The other vet was good but on my last visit he told me he would not be treating such animals anymore because it was rare that people saw him for help with newts and it wasn't worth his time to keep up with studies on newt care. I made numerous phone calls in the area and no vets knew anything about treating newts. If anyone can recommend someone reliable or my future pets, I would be grateful!!

In sadness,
Karen

Thanks Dawn. I had checked that site in the past and made many phone calls to those vets. Believe it or not, most of them won't see and don't treat newts and salamanders. So, I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone actually use a reputable vet in the Long Island/NYC area that they know treats newts and can vouch that they're good?
