Hi - can anyone out there help me. I live in Nottingham and require a vet with a specialist knowledge of axolotl anatomy. Can anyone suggest anyone they have used and would recommend. I have had so many bad experiences in the past I have lost my confidence. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you !!

Hi

Thanks so much for your reply and for the information provided, but I have already researched the list but to no avail. I have managed to find an exotics specialist surgery in Leicester called Chine House and I have been told that they have a little knowledge of our little friends, but due to such bad experiences in the past with vets I am anxious to try them, especially as I will have to transport my axi's for 50 minutes by car.

Have you ever needed to have one of your critters put to sleep ?

I've put a couple down in the past and I do it myself at home. It's not easy on you but it does save some money.

Not sure of the legality of this in the Uk, if anyone does this they should probally keep quite about it.

Sorry, it sounds like you have no ideal options, Kasha. For an aquatic like an axolotl, I would probably use ethyl alcohol, as described in that article. I have used this on a large fish, and it's takes some time to put a large animal to sleep, but it seems to be gentle and effective.
