I was checking on my two spotted salamanders today - and there was only one in the container. We took out all the substrate and searched everywhere in the tank and he is truly gone. These two were just little guys, about 2-3", and very inactive as far as I could tell, and I'm amazed one managed to escape.
I've searched everywhere within about 20 feet of the tank (except for carpeted areas which I doubt he could have gotten far on). We even pulled out the fridge and dishwasher.
I put out 'salamander traps' tonight (soaking wet paper towels) - about a dozen scattered around possible hiding areas. Hopefully if he is still alive and able to move around, he will be attracted to them. It was humid today, but I'm still afraid he is dried up or has so much dust and junk stuck to him that he can't move...
