Hi all,

Just wanted to share a situation that recently happened with my three noto efts.

I upgraded their tank from a 10 gallon to a 29 gallon, but didn't yet have a screened top that fit the 29 gallon so I left it open, thinking there is no way in heck a little eft is going to be able to climb a glass wall of a 29 gallon tank. I had planned to pickup a screened top within the next few days.

Sure enough, my daughter and I went to feed them yesterday and found one missing!!  We searched everywhere with no luck. Finally this afternoon we found him hanging out near the sump pump in our basement. He was on the verge of falling in!

That little guy escaped by scaling a vertical glass wall about 16" high!!

Glad you found it! Hopefully this is a lesson for everyone!

Wow you are so lucky you found him! unfortunately a lot of us learn like this :-(

Quite a lucky eft - most escapees aren't so lucky. I just wish there were a way to reach every new newt/sal owner with a warning before this happens.

I had the same thing happen at work. The lid was left off very slightly and a tiny eft got out. I found it underneath hanging in a spider's web...it was still alive!!! It got a telling off and got put back in the tank.
