Hello everyone. I am a newbie to axolotl but I have been keeping freshwater fish and shrimps for over a year now. I am going to setup a 10 gallon tank tonight and start the nitorgen cycle. I bought an eheim classic 2211. After some reading here and on other sites I am worried that this filter might be over kill. I currently run a 2211 on my 8 gallon shrimp tank and the current is not too strong. I just do not know what is "too strong" for an axolotl. I also have a spare AquaClear 20 power filter.

What would you suggest I use?

I plan on housing 2 juvi axolotl in this tank.

You can always break up the flow by angling the flow towards the glass or using a spreader bar to disperse the flow - or just stick a rock or plant in the flow stream - keeping an eye on how much movement is in the tank, if an axolotl can't stay on their feet because its a wash zone you'll notice, or if the gills are moving a lot from water movement you'll notice it easily.

If you've used the same filter in a similar tank & it's not created heaps of flow, I'd give it a try. I'm sure you'll work out what too much flow is :)

Looking forward to an update & introduction of your lotls :)

Thank you Nikki. The eheim come with a spray bar. I will definetly use it. Thanks for the tips on how to notice over flow. I wil post pics of the progress.
