I have some axolotl eggs which I have had for about 2 weeks, there are about 25 eggs in the container and one of them hatched about 4 days ago but so far none of the others have, is this normal or should they all be hatching around the same time?

The unhatched eggs still flip around and move so they are still alive

Does temp make a difference, its been cold and snowing alot recently and their tank is in my spare room which isn't very warm

Be patient. If they're moving in their jelly sacs, they're fine. They don't all hatch at once. Temp does make a difference but cooler is better for long lived, healthy axies.

Yeah I thought that would be the case! Do they just pop out of the jelly egg or do they take a while? I was hoping to catch one coming out but don't like my chances!

Hey Oli

Congrats on your 1st swimmer!!

Sometimes my eggs can take upto 3 weeks!! Its cold on my living room and in tis weather its freezing.

When they hatch they start off wriggling then they just keep going til they break out of the jelly.

Good Luck with them

Mel

I sat watching them wriggle for over an hour the other night, I thought they might break out but no, they were just teasing me! I wouldn't say it was a swimmer yet, it takes refuge under some stones! Someone had the other half of the batch I recieved and I think theres hatched over a week ago

I woke up this morning and I have mini axolotls everywhere! Hooray! I had about 25 eggs (which is half of the batch I was given) and about 20 of them hatched last night!

Should I remove the jelly from the tank or leave it, they are meant to eat some of the egg for up to 24 hours after hatching I think but does that mean the whole jelly bit? The brine shrimp keep swimming into the jelly and getting stuck!

Remove the jelly egg casings as they don't eat this part, They live off of the yolk that is stored in their belly area for the first few days after hatching.

Ok thanks I will remove them when I get home and make an omlette

congrats on the hatching

Sorry about the slow reply time, I only just noticed!

I'm afraid I wasn't very sucessful in being an axolotl parent this time, they all hatched fine and seemed to be doing ok until one morning I came in and all but one were dead, I seperated the the live one from the rest but it died afew days later
