I got up this morning to find the plants in one of my axie tanks covered in eggs. I would like to know how best to remove them. Do I just remove the plants (fake) that have eggs on them? and what about the ones that are not attached to plants?

This is my second lot the first lot last year all got eaten when I was overseas for longer than expected. There is a mix of dark eggs and white and some that look like little yin and yang symbols. I would like to keep these ones so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ian

Hiya
I would say yeah remove the plants.
They are in a big thick jelly coat so you dont have to worry too much about them getting damaged.
Just scoop the others out.

I've just had a load hatch!! i'm right excited!

Good Luck

Mel

Aye, easiest way is to just remove the plants to another tank. I also use a turkey baster to collect up the strays....you may need to trim the end of the turkey baster to enlarge the opening to prevent egg damage.

I found the eggs a real pain to remove so I just took out the plants until the eggs hatched. The turkey baster is great for removing too..Check your filter as mine got filled with eggs ( the first time round I didn't notice them). The eggs that didn't get removed seemed to break down after a few weeks and they then came off more easily.

Thanks for your prompt replies,

I have removed the plants and as many of the other eggs as I could and placed them in the formally quarantine/holding tank all up +-105 eggs and there are about 15 that I have left in the main tank.

Thanks once again

I have just realised that 2 females have been laying and I now have 160 eggs and still going, I was starting to wonder how many eggs could fit in one 7 inch axolotl.

Hi Ian,

as you described the color of the eggs, there must be 3 mothers laying eggs, a wild-type, a leucistic and an albino.;)

Gratulations!

Hi Tina,

You are so correct, I have watched all three females laying eggs over the last 2 days, quite amazing I am now up to 232 eggs and still going. At least I now know 3 a definately females I just hope I got the sexing right for the 4 males in the other tank. Or... I'm not even going to think about it.

Finally they have stopped laying and I have 344 eggs give or take a few.

Woooooo... nice batch, Ian! Have fun with that lot....

What's the plan? Going to try and raise 'em all? :D

Thats the plan at this stage but definately subject to change depending on how many hatch and how many need culling.
