 Hi all!!!

I have been a breeder for about a year as my axolotls are happy and horny and keep laying fertile eggs naturally.
This time round I am on day 9 of my new clutch and I wake up this morning to find half of them HATCHED!!!

I have successfully raised axies before but my last clutch was 14-17 days to hatch not 9!!!! Just ordered some brineshrimp and hope it comes in time. I wanted to see what the likelihood of them surviving is. They have hatched naturally, full bellies and are swimming but not really developed and not even finished their colours yet.... ANY ADVICE WELCOME!!!

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help them survive!!!
Thanks Sabrina x :p

In an emergency some breeders have had some luck with feeding egg yolk paste to their hatchling larvae - boil an egg hard, take out the yolk and mash it with dechlorinated water and use a piptte or syringe to drop it in front of the larvae.

You may also be able to source some microfoods from a pond or water butt - it's worth a try.

You might be able to get some decapsulated brineshrimp eggs from your LFS - they are supposed to hatch in 12 hours in the right conditions.

What temperature are your eggs at? I know you can get them to hatch at 12 days if you keep them toastie-warm.
I have some of mine in the living room at 18-20C and another handful in the shed at 9-10C to stagger their hatching (hopefully).

Yes I kept them at about 20C but didn't expect them this soon!

I'm hoping they will be ok, just thinking of Their development and whether they will survive being out of the egg so soon!!

Thanks for the advice on the egg yolk I will try if the brineshrimp don't arrive in time!

X
