Hey all, I have some good news - my female pyrro laid an egg today! I realize that many of you have had experience with newt breeding and eggs, but since its new to me I am very excited and wanted to share! Good thing I ordered some blackworms the other day, too. I am sure she has laid more than just this one, but since the darn things are so tiny I am sure I will never find them (assuming they haven't been munched). I wouldn't have found this egg but I saw her in the act of laying. So hopefully in another 20 days I will have at least one little larva swimming about. Wow, after having a newt for over 14 years I feel like I am finally not such a novice... But I guess the credit goes to her

Cool! Were you trying to breed your newts or did they just suddenly decide to get their grove on?

Hi Ray. I was hoping they would breed since the temps in my basement where they are kept get low in the winter (about 17C). The one female I have had for over a decade but up until this past spring she has been alone all these years. But a very generous individual from this site offered me a trio and I took them up on it, and vola! Eggs! So far I have about 20 and the other females are laying now, too. It's fun to watch them develop and I should have a larva by about Christmas!

You must really know how to take care of newts if you have had your one female for that long! Mind sharing some info on how you keep them, as in what kind of setup(s) you designed and what you feed the little critters?
