Hi all, newbie alert! :)
Having finally got the space for some axolotls, I got some spawn off the internet about a month ago thinking it would be nice to watch them grow up as opposed to buying adults/juveniles. I bought 15 eggs and had 12 hatch, about 4 died in the first few days but the others seemed to be doing really well, until last week. Now I only have 2 remaining babies and only one is looking reasonably healthy. I cant think what I have done wrong. I did partial water changes every day, got a breeding colony of daphnia going so they always had plenty of food. Temperature has always stayed stable and there in a dull area. I am really gutted as they were some lovely colours starting to come through. Am I better just aiming to buy some juveniles if the remaining 2 do not make it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sometimes egg batches don't work out, especially if the mother hasn't laid eggs before. It doesn't sound like anything you have done, I would just make sure to help those two grow.

I totally agree.
I have been raising eggs for about 18 months (many many batches not from my own axolotls) just recently I had a full batch completely fail....:(

Nothing I did, just a weak batch.

Dont give up.

stick at it,sounds like you gave it a good go,its horrible when things go wrong but its worth it when they dont.

Hi
It leave you thinking what did i do wrong? when babies die,
I to ordered some eggs online (black/gold) first time mum, they started doing great growing right. Until they hatched half seem to just die shortly after hatching, some seem to not have a clue that they should be eating the bbs swiming around them.

I'm down to just 5 babies now hopefully these guys will make it have gotton their front legs so half way there.

They all look to be wild type not 100% sure as there eyes are still so tiny.

I would love the chance to raise more babies. hopefully will get a full albino and full black.

Fingers crossed,

I've raised so many babies over the last couple of years so i don't think its anything that i have done wrong, some batches off eggs are just not ment to be,

Usually the first spawn dont do very well.
They hatch but a few weeks later they die off.

Theres nothing you can do :(

It's all the course of nature at work, imagine if all the eggs worked out... You'd have a lot of axolotls! (That would be great but you'd have to have a tank the size of a small pool)
