Edgar's an awesome name! He is certainly a boy o_o

Nice axolotl, you have a picture of the complete tank?

He's beautiful!!!! Such a cutie and somewhat of a poser by the looks  but do yourself and Edgar a favor and remove the white pebbles I can see in the last picture before little Edgar swallows them. They do look very pretty with the white substrate but they will cause Edgar real problems when he ingests them.

Gorgeous!

I agree with Mere.. the sand is perfect but the larger rocks should be removed. Wouldn't want any harm to come to your little cutie! :)

Thanks for the kind words, all.
The pebbles are about as big as his head, and look smaller in the pic.
To be on the safe side, I removed them anyways.
Will put up a pic of the entire tank shortly.
Grtz

Where did you get those hiding-pot-things from? I'm looking for them all over the place but I can't find them.

You can just get the cheap terracotta pots from gardening stores (Bunnings if you have that there). I'm not sure how you'd break them in half though.. Could just bury half though.. :)

It's a regular terracotta/clay flowerpot. I created the "portal" by carefully applying the old hammer, not too brutally, and lucked out big time in the first try ! The "portal" was perfect ! Next I grinded the rough edges down with sandpaper so Edgar won't cut himself. This took 5 mins tops. The other pots were simply cut in half with a regular carpenters saw. These didn't require sandpaper smoothening because the edges are embedded in the substrate, and there are no sharp edges for the animal to hurt itself with.

Good luck !

Edgar's tank, he has 3 pots to hide in, but lately prefers to hide behind/among the plants.
