I have a well planted 20 gallon with Eco-Complete as a substrate. Will be okay with my newly purchased Triturus karelinii (Southern Crested Newt)? The newts are only about 3-3.5in and I am not sure if ingesting this substrate would be fatal.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I think, if it's the substrate I'm remembering correctly, that it's like very small gravel. I don't think it would be safe for newts because they can definitely swallow the pieces.

I've got quite a few planted tanks, but had to give up on any 'planting substrates' they sell because the pieces are just too big. I stick to sand with root tabs. You could also try making a dirt tank. Probably not what you want to hear because changing out a a substrate is basically a tank tear-down
