when i feed, i tend to feed large amounts, they eat it all but they look like balloons when theyre finished!
I looked closely at the body of my most recent death and it seemed very bloated... can they eat themselves to death?

i can't say whether they are dying from over eating (i've certainly never experienced it) but the corpses do get bloated very quickly after death. hope this helps.

yeah i think you can. they are oppertunistic eaters so will normally keep on eating. just feed them enough that when all mushed together they roughly equal the size of their tummy. thats what i do haha. hope this helps

I fed my larvae quite heavy and I did not have this problem. Remember to keep the water clean clean clean.

Another name for axolotls is "water dog". And like most dogs, they will eat whatever you put in front of them. I don't know how harmful overeating can be to an amphibian, but it will keep changing their body composition. You wouldn't feed your dog a whole bag of dog food once a week, right? A little at a time is best, and is less stressful on the digestive system. If you want to feed them a lot, break it up into several feedings.

Also remember that the more you feed, the more waste they produce, which could be leading to your problems. Maggies suggestion will help, but also keep an eye on you ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels. If they are climbing too fast, reduce the food and/or increase your water changes.
