My newts have laid their first batch of eggs and I've heard that they can be infertile or basically die so I wont be too surprised if they dont make it but I'm trying to sustain them.

Two have hatched, one seems normal, fine, and responsive. The second has it's head on the bottom of the tank with it's tail floating up and the tail seems a little curved. He is slightly less responsive than the other. Should I be concerned or is this normal and he's just had a rough hatching?

On a side note, my newt laid these eggs in moss patches that fell to the bottom of the tank. She only laid 7 eggs and hasn't laid any more since, and that was about 6 days ago. Do I need to get plastic strips or a better plant for her to lay eggs in? We have plastic plants but the leaves are spaced out so I'm sure she didn't like not being able to tuck the eggs in there. I have two female newts and they both appear to be currently gravid.
