I am preparing to cycle my tank. I heard that frozen brine shrimp is a good ammonia source for cycling the tank... I have dried brine shrimp but no frozen. Is this a good alternative?

Borrow a gallon of dirty water from a neighbor or friend's fish tank filter. It will work faster and better. Take out their filter sponge or pad. Squeeze out all the dirt into a bucket of tank water and take it home and pour it into your tank. . If you can take a cup of gravel or a few stones from their tank that will be even better. Almost Instantly cycled. You could still have some small ammonia spikes so test everyday for 2 weeks and do water changes as needed Don't clean your filter for those two weeks either you want bacteria to grow all over it. Live plants will help even more as they will be loaded with bacteria too.

Thanks! my tank is in a biology class with plenty of other fish tanks so this should work perfectly! I'm also using a sponge filter that was used in a previous tank. Will this help also?

absolutely it will help, that filter would be a biological goldmine! I do that everytime I set up a tank and it works super fast, in fact you are probably cycled now since the post was a week old
