I've been hunting for a reasonably priced large tank (4-5ft) for ages now, I've been checking out eBay, preloved, freecycle etc.

I had 3 tanks on my eBay list, auctions ending at 6pm, 7pm and 7.30.
I REALLY wanted the 7pm one - it was the perfect size, came with a cabinet, filter and some ornaments, but was 80 miles away.
But the 6pm one was bigger, came with just tank and stand, and was only 15 miles away.
So I bid on the 6pm one - and won it!
Great! Until the 7pm one went for a lot less than we thought it would, and certainly a price we were willing to pay! The 7.30 one went for a little bit more, but it was a very nice tank.
And THEN hubby informs me that our alcove is 2 inches too short for the tank I won!!!!!

So I will be picking up a lovely big 5ft tank this week, rearranging my living room entirely to accommodate this huge tank, and cursing myself for not getting a tape measure out BEFORE bidding on eBay!

You'd be crazy to buy a new tank these days.

They sell for nothing second hand.

I like breeders racks. No one wants them and they are often almost giveaways.

A whole lot less than new - definitely. 2nd hand tanks go for as little as £30 for 60L here, up to a few hundred for a 200+L with stand and filter.

The problem I find is people want to sell their tank complete with fish!

I just did the same kind of the thing on the weekend found a bargain on gumtree for a 6 foot tank which needed to be picked up the next day.

When I got there I nearly died it had a custom made stand which was as tall as me LOL

The tanks is great its 6x2x1 foot l x w x h which is great and the stand once cut down is also awesome but didn’t think it all through and had to move tanks all around the garage and bring a tank inside just to make this new tank fit. (im not allowed to look on gumtree and ebay for a while)

oh and the stand and tank were so large that they had to be taken out a window to get them out of the house

eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, they all have amazing deals. I am pretty sure you can find free tanks on Craigslist occasionally. Amazon always has great deals, and has just about everything you can imagine. And eBay is just plain old cheap, plus the bidding makes it fun :D

I agree with AuntieJude, it can actually be kind of hard to find good tank that doesn't include the fish!

I love eBay AND amazon!

Me 2! I've scored cheap barely used finnex led lights from ebay, and various other treasures. Several of my smaller, like 20 gallon tanks were given to me by people who had tired of keeping fish. Luckily the fish were no longer in the tanks :D
