This is my male Chinese fire belly newt

He hasn't eaten in the two weeks I have had him and is just starting to go in the water kind off

He looks okay, but could you post more pictures of his setup? Chinese fire-belly newts when you get them from a petstore, are survivors of a very bad international export system to give petstores newts in the first place, and because of which, are very sick and unhealthy, which means that they need perfect conditions to heal. Here's a couple care-sheets to help get you started: Caudata Culture Species Entry - Cynops orientalis - Chinese firebelly Caudata Culture Articles - Cycling Caudata Culture Articles - Food Items for Captive Caudates Caudata Culture Articles - How to Feed a Large Worm to a Small Newt Caudata Culture Articles - Species Mixing Disasters And thanks for diving into the hobby, it's a great one! :)

Here is the pictures of my set up I'm getting a bigger tank very soon

I think you are on the right track but there is still room for improvement :)

Get a ton more plants in there - live are best but fake can also be used. There should be so many plants that you can't really see the back of the aquarium. Floating type plants are great, especially for a newt that is just getting comfortable spending more time in the water. With floating plants, the newt will have resting places where it is in the water but not completely submerged. This type of setup helps water-shy animals to take the literal plunge ;)

I would also recommend increasing the water level, especially once the newt is spending more time in the water. The more water you have the more stable your water chemistry and temperature will be.

The newt does appear to have a decent weight right now. Is he still not eating since you first posted? What types of food are you offering?

I have added more plants and put a bit more water in the tank. He had only ate once (before the post) and is getting whitish scales from being dry I spray him with water from the tank. He dosent seem to like the water at all. I offer live bloodworms live earthworms, freeze dried shrimp and freeze dried blood worms he has only ate a small price of earthworm about the size of his tail. Should I just be patient ? Or should I be worried?

Thank you
