Lovely healthy frondy gills and a good weight by the look of him! Much better than Toothless is at the moment :) What are you going to call him?

Haha yay! Im glad! I have no idea what to name him yet! Have any pointers in signs of stress?

Signs of stress I've read about include getting paler in colour (difficult in your lotl's case but you'd see other signs too), being 'fidgety,' flying around the tank (and sometimes hitting the glass), a white sheen on the skin and refusing to eat. Sometimes lotls get stressed over big things, and others small. They might be fidgety because they're too warm or because you've added something new to the tank, but your newbie looks pretty settled to me :)

I'm just nervous cuz he is just sitting in the same spot. And he has shiney spots on his fluffy gills but I think its his coloring.

'lotls can be pretty lazy :p
Those are called iridiophores, a concetnration of pigments. My golden albino has them, especially on his gills. Makes him look like come type of cosmic being :p

Ok that's good to know! I think it makes him cuter :) and hopefully later tonight ill catch him wandering <3

EJ's right. The white and gold coloured lotls have iridescent patches. They're really beautiful. The white sheen I'm talking about looks more like egg white and is excreted when they're heat stressed. I worried too when I read about the loss of colour because Toothless is a light blue on her belly, but black everywhere else. Turns out that's totally normal for a Melanoid! Also, if he's sat still, he might just be chilling. From what I've seen it might be more worrying if he was flying around the tank. He's just integrating himself in.

Mine sits around/hides all day, but if I happen to check on him in the middle of the night....he's swimming around and doing more exciting stuff. ;)

Yeah like right now he is pretty active! Playing with his bubbles...maybe ill name him bubbles...lol also anyone know anyone who is selling 2-3 in gfp leucistic axolotl? I wanna get him a friend soon around the same age and size. :)

You probably already know this but it's best to wait until yours is about 6 inches or more before you get them a friend - any younger and they might bite bits off each other and even turn cannibalistic. If they eat another axxie when they're smaller than 6 inches they become oppotunistic cannibals and the habit never really leaves them. I have no idea how big your newbie is but I always think it's better to be safe than sorry.

Bubbles is a fab name! Mine loves the bubbles that come off her air bar. They're also more active at night because they're nocturnal :)
