Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any experiences with Aqua One, Blue Planet or Juwel built-in filters that come with the 60-70L tanks? Hoping they are suitable for my 2 wildtype darlings!

I've been wanting a new tank, and am pretty keen to try one with an built-in filter, but I'm a bit apprehensive that they might not be any good!

Based in NZ, not a lot of choice in Wellington I'm afraid :(

Any kind of advice very welcome!

I've had a Juwel corner tank with the built in filter for about fifteen years, it should have no problems dealing with axolotl waste, just diffuse the current with some foam or a spraybar. There are two issues I've found over all that time, firstly Juwel heaters are massively unreliable. not an issue for axies though. secondly the lighting gives off a lot of heat, it could really do with some cooling slots in the hood, but I'm looking into converting to LEDs soon.

I have a 90L Aqua One tank for some tropical fish. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have an axolotl in it but you may need to disperse the flow of the filter outlet as I find mine has a fairly strong current. The other thing you need to consider is if the tank has a hood like mine, you may find it more difficult to keep the temperature down particularly in summer and especially if you use the lights. I don't know if the tanks you are looking at our quite like mine but you could remove the front hood (leaving the filter section at the back) and replace that part with mesh to keep it cooler.
