Hello,

I'm wondering if the filter will heat the tank tempeature a bit? My one's shark, and put it under the water surface, and these 2 days I found that the tank water's not as cool as before. may be I'm wrong, but I'm afraid that it may afraid the health of my Axie!

Yes an in-tank filter can increase the temperature of your water. Not sure of the solution - I changed my filter, but there may be more sensible options.....

Filters do tend to warm up the water. The shark seemed to warm more so than our other filters. What is your tank temp? Also, if you have a smallish tank, less water obviously warms up faster than a larger tank of water. If temp goes above 20 degrees, try cooling it with fans blowing across surface, if you're able.

Also, did you manage to bring the flow down on the filter?

Hi Kapo & Deb R,
Thanks for answering me, I already changed a new filter, a smaller one with spray bar! It's Aqua One in-tank filter, although it's smaller but since my tank's not a huge one, then I think it's ok, may be I should change the water more often.
The tank temp's 22.5c now, and I'm using a fan to cool it down, I also turn on the air-conditioner of the room, as now here in Hong Kong's quite hot nowadays.
But I will try all my best to help my axie to get away from stressful.

All electrically-driven filters produce some heat in the water. I think the Sand Shark is one of the worst (I had one). Heat production is directly correlated with the wattage of the filter. Unfortunately, some filters do not tell you the watts. The lowest wattage filter that I have seen is the Duetto DJ-50.

Good luck with cooling the tank. I recently discovered that a fan blowing across the water is more effective than I expected. I decreased the temperature in the tank from 76F to 68F in only a few hours.

I converted a computer fan to do the job.
But make sure you get it checked by a qualified electrician!
My grandfather is an inventor and a dabbler - and electrics were his job, so I let him check mine over.
Works lovely, and keeps my lighting cool too.

You can buy things like this on ebay. They are a little bit expensive, but if they work would be well worth it. They come in 2, 4 and 6 fan arrangements and I think are meant to suck the warm air out of the aquarium, but I would personally use it to blow air into it. They come up under "clip fan" in all items, to narrow it down try "aquarium" or "fish tank/fishtank"

Yeah! That's what I got, but mine's a smaller one(2fans), I bought that from pet shop, and it mentioned that it would cool down water from 3 to 5 degrees.
May be I should increase the water level, then the fan would blow closer to the water surface!

If you increase the water level there will be more water to cool down. So it will take longer and may not work as well.
