my axolotl is currently down with a bout of fungus, and when i place him in his tea bath he seems very restless. he hiccups air bubbles and his tail curls like he’s distressed. i hate seeing him in pain, and i feel horrible even though treatments are helping significantly. thought i’d ask the wonderful people of caudata if tea baths are uncomfortable//painful? i wouldn’t think so, but axies are just so soft and fragile, i feel as though anything could hurt my little one ;(

It's really hard to tell, I'd think not, probably just acting that way because of the fungus. It's really the only way to help the little guy. Even if it does hurt them, it's worth it in the long run. They'll feel better.

unfortnately, i seem to have a rather persistent case of fungus in my little mudkip. i’m moving to salt baths depending on how much grows back today :/ hope he feels better between baths though :)

Another option to allow for some benefits without causing too much stress: add some chilled black tea directly to the tank, about 8 oz. per 10 gallons. Since you're dealing with a fungal infection, you should be doing about 40% water changes. I recommend doing that twice daily. Once the water looks clear of tea, add some more.

Other notes: make sure your tea is 100% black with no additives and make sure that you keep it in the fridge and completely chilled before you put it in.
