Hello people, I was wondering if newts can eat small snails, newly hatched, for example, because there are many snail spawns in the tank but I can't see any little ones...I haven't seen newts eating any neither.:confused:

This is strange because they are physas and planorbis but they aren't a plague, as in another tanks I have, with that amount of spawns.

Regards

They sometimes do. It depends greatly on individuals, though, as some animals will eat the odd snail every now and then between meals, but others don´t seem to be bothered.
In my experience they seem to be more interested in medium sized snails, not newly hatched. These are so tiny that all my newts ignore them completely.
There might be another cause for the absence of snail babies....or perhaps they are just hiding very well.

As a note , remember I have 4-legged larva and adults living together, so, maybe larvae are eating them...¬¬

Thanks azhael

Definately, they do.

I put some newly-hatched apple snails in the tank and the adults were very interested on them and I could see how newts ate them.
