I suppose it's maybe a matter of opinion or experience but do juv newts do better on land or in aquatic conditions, does it make them grow better or happier.

Thanks

Re: Do juvenille newts do better in aquatic or terrestrial

What species are you thinking about?
This varies GREATLY among species. Some have juveniles that are completely hydrophobic and won´t touch the water until they are sexually mature, others can be raised aquatically their whole lives without ever leaving the water, and some are somewhere in between.

For those species that accept an aquatic or semi-aquatic life before maturing, most people report that they grow faster and better in the water. However this is probably due to the fact that feeding is easier and the food possibilities wider. Some people argue that raising aquatically a species that normally is terrestrial until adulthood in the wild can have negative effects on their life span or health.

Even within a single species it's hard to generalize. My C. pyrrhogaster sasayame really seem to need a terrestrial period, but my C. pyrrhogaster Kanto can stay semi-aquatic. Size also plays a role. The larger the morphs, the more likely that they will do OK staying semi-aquatic.

its with regards to my alpine newts, they were living in aquatic conditions with the breeder before i got them - it was just to see if they would prefer it really. Want to give them the best possible start.
