Axies don't need light, but if you plan on keeping any live plants, you will probably need supplimental light. Right now mine are near a window, and I don't use any lighting. Soon they'll be moved to their new tank, and I'll have one 48" grow-bulb over 'em to keep the plants healthy.

Is that a hydroponics light Joan? I thought they had real high luminum output, designed to be like hardout sunlight, cutting down growing time.(yes,i have dabbled in a bit of hydroponics before;))I didnt think axies liked much light as they dont have eyelids,so I have a log feature for hiding from any rogue sunlight and am at the moment setting up a forest for hiding in too.

Sorry Jon,this was your thread and I forgot to say to you maybe you will need lighting of some sort,so you can see them!!are the tanks on a shelf?

lol thats the stand that came with my ebay bargain the tank and stand were only £12?
and its a proper welded box section frame work!!
its got a metal bottom shelf so i lined it with polystyrene/laminate floor underlay!
bingo double tank stand!! top tank is 52" x 16" x 20" and the bottom is 48" x 12" x 16"
imputting my axie in the bottom tank and would like to get him a mate/companion,
i will have lights to veiw but was more conserned that axie's might need some light to live?
im thinking about using the white/clear cold cathode tubes as ive already got these set up as moonlights (blue 1s)
i am gonna set this up 2night to see how it works/looks ill post some pics and await comments??lol
