Displaying multiple setups

How should I display multiple newt/salamander tanks?? I have 4 salamander enclosures and 3 aquatic newt enclosures(not to mention frogs) every species I have is in its own large tank..usually 20 gal long aquariums. But can never find good, multiple stands to hold them all..so they are literally around the house..

What do other folk do with their setups?? Any thoughts??

thanks,

Billie

Unfortunately, there aren't many attractive options for displaying multiple tanks. I have seen black metal stands that will hold 2 20-long tanks, but that's about it. Beyond that, you could look at industrial shelving or building your own.

I got a 'gorilla rack', a heavy duty workman's shelving unit, that can be converted into 4 long shelves. It displays 4 tanks, and each shelf can hold something like 1000 pounds, so I have no worry about putting a full 40 gallon tank on top. They're not the most attractive stands, but look better than I had expected. Make sure if you go into a home-improvement store that you get the REALLY heavy duty ones. Some say they'll hold 500 pounds per shelf, but only if the weight is spread equally. I bought one of these, and refused to put even a terrestrial tank on it.

Billie,

I got these two shelves from Home Depot here in Canada. They were just under $100 each Canadian so Im sure that works out to about $20 American! hahaha The shelves actually have a fourth shelf but I left it out as I needed the space inbetween tanks for better access.

Danny,
Those black stands are the same ones I have. I was also only able to use 3 of the 4 shelves.

Hey all, I just recently built my own, and cost me no more than $25 bucks if your frugil (spelling?) . Anyways heres the pic.

That looks pretty nice Mark. I was thinking about building my own for a 55 gallon set-up that I have in mind for a community of Fire sals. I don't have the space to do it right now, but I'll get it done once I do.

Yeah, mine took a while, and came out a whole lot better than how I thought it would. It was kinda scary the first time because I was unsure if it would hold all that weight, but it has for about 2 weeks now, i just need to be careful not to spill water on the wood. I think the best part about it is all the Philodendren and Pothos on the top. They stretch out onto a net that covers my ceiling.

WOW, awesome looking setups.. I too use those wire rack systems, but for my reptiles. Wasn't sure they could hold the weight of the water.. I might just have to give them a try..

It's nice to know I aint the only one with wall to wall tanks..lol

I use cinder blocks and 2x4's to make racks. You can make them any length or height you want. You can take them apart easily and best of all they are cheap to make. I will post photos in the next few days, but you can find examples on the web if you search for "fish rooms" or "diy aquarium racks".
