Hey there, well i have recently noticed that my axie has started to get brown feet, as if theyre dirty, would this be some sort of fungus? Its really just started on the tips of his toes and has become the whole of his foot. Any ideas? How can I fix it? cheers

firebugjen - there is a picture at

See if that is what your axolotls feet look like.

One point of note is that white, golden, and albino axolotls that have reached sexual maturity will have dark brown tips to their toes. The soles of their feet may even appear "dirty" (see the photo below). In wild type and melanoid animals the toe tips become slightly paler than the rest of the body, at maturity, but it is harder to see than in the lighter colour variants.

thanks again, yeah it looks like that, i think that means he's sexually mature now. I don't have to do anything special with him now do I? Or just let him be?

my male is already sexually mature (and fathered many children) and had slightly dark toe tips. last night ive noticed his toenails are really dark and he has dark markings on the bottom of his feet too. lol.

Egon's markings are really stark, thick and black - it looks like his hands are stripey or like he's stepped into paint. Makes him look like some kind of super hero....

firebugjen - No you don't have to do anything special for him now that he is mature. Though I am sure he probably wouldn't mind a big fat worm in celebration of his adulthood

hey so how old would my 'sexualy mature' fellow be?

I cant believe i used the same term - 'dirty' as the info site haha

They usually sexually mature between 6 and 18 months of age. Unless you know the hatch date, there's really now way of telling.
