Dim Lights (fluorescent)

Any good ideas on how to dim out a florescent light without catching my house on fire(because they seem to get hot.

i have a regular hood set up.

wanna block like 50% of the light out cos it is kinda bright,

How many bulbs are in the hood? If 2, just remove 1
Otherwise, not too sure... hopefully someone else will have an answer!

yeah its just one =/ this is the first fish tank ive ever set up myself so im trying all kinds of things. when i was a kid my parents set everything up, i have a feeling they didnt get as worried as i do or even care. lol sad to say
