Hey everyone, I've seen a few posts in the past about axolotls that are supposedly the same age growing at different rates, sometimes to the point they need to be separated. My first batch of eggs has developed nicely into groups of wild type and leucistics and the first have gone to their new homes. However some of them have refused to grow much and others have taken off in size. All hatched within 2 days kept at the same temp, same food, same amount of water changes but here's the result. The largest and smallest. All the others fall in between these two in size

Wow that's a big difference. I've noticed some differences in the growth rates too and was actually wondering if I should've culled the smallest one/ones, but since they are eating very well, still growing steadily and seem healthy I decided not to. Mine are only a month old so the difference between the biggest and the smallest isn't that obvious yet, but noticeable anyway.

I believe these guys are a little past the two month mark now. The smaller guys still eat and are doing fine, I'm just surprised how big some of them have gotten in only a few months time

Lol this is so funny. You can barely see that little one . Awww. My two axolotls did have a difference still to this day. One matured much fast. Still the smallest its just showing his sex and black tipped toes. The biggest showed when he was about 5 or so inches. Now he's about 8 or so inches. The smallest is a little behind. The were both from the same batch.

I looked around online and found that sometimes this symptom of delayed growth usually means they won't live past a few months. It's almost 3 months now and that little one along with another have not grown at all from the time this picture was taken. The leucistic in this picture has grown a little under a half inch. Also another leucistic from this same batch that I've given to a friend is even bigger! The little guys all eat little earthworms every day so idk if it will stay small it's whole possibly short life or if it will grow anymore
