Hi everyone!

I have a quick question about eye color on baby axies. My oldest 3 are getting pretty big, and I've noticed something interesting about their eyes. One is a golden albino or white, so typical non-eye color ;), and the other has jet black eyes. But the 3rd one has gold ringed eyes! Very noticeable! Is it part of the eye color or the skin around them?

Thanks and hope everyone has a great weekend! :D

The shiny eye indicates that the animal is non melanoid. Melanoids have no shiny ring around the eye. Wildtypes, golds, and leucistic's will have this.

Okay, color me confused (pun intended). So both parents were leucistics, and there is for sure one golden albino/ white in this batch. So does that mean the few that have jet black eyes are going to be melanoid? They aren't nearly dark enough for that coloration, or is it indicitive of recessive genetics?

The two (besides the gold) are leucistic?

If so,
then the one with the shiny eye ring is Leucistic
and the one without the eye ring is Leucistic Melanoid

Both the parents are leucistic, and all of the babies are pretty light in color, with one of the younger ones being a little darker in color. So will the melanoid Leucistic still look like a leucistic?

I'm not 100% sure without pics.
But, yes the Melanoid Leucistic look almost exactly like single gene Leucistic s except they are also Melenoid so lack an eye ring.
