Differences between C. orientalis and C. pyrrhogaster Kanto?

can anyone teach me how to tell the difference between the two? their bellies look similar and they even have blunt tails...

If you just happened upon them at a pet shop, the odds are that you have C. orientalis, simply because most Cynops in the pet trade outside of Japan are orientalis. And I do know that you get orientalis there in Singapore because the ones that I keep here in Japan actually came here circuitously through Singapore!

Considering how hot it gets there in Singapore, do be very careful to keep the water temperature down

Sorry, I hadn't read your initial post carefully. You were talking about Kanto pyrrhogaster. True, the tails of Kanto-type pyrrhogaster can be quite rounded, but the animals are significantly larger than orientalis and the skin texture rougher, etc.

Just for the heck of it, I might even take some comparison pics after I get home tonight
