Nice Andy! I also got a pair. did you know that the plethodon cinereus in the shipment were actually young D. conanti? that's what i got a pair of. they are pretty animals!

That's great Will! We'll have to compare notes at some point. Nate has suggested that they might not even be conanti but monticola. I'll get some vent shots for the experts over there to muse over. Apparently colouration is so varied that the best ID is vent shape. It would be good to get them sexed at the same time

Hi Mark, you must have misunderstood. The best "easy" method to determine monticola vs. fuscus complex animals is belly coloration/pattern. However, this often is not 100% either, in which case you have to resort to tooth morphology or DNA.
