Deformed eyes

Here's a pic of my axolotl with the deformed eyes, lightened to show detail. For the longest time I thought this probable female was a melanoid because I couldn't see any gold rings around the eyes. Now I know that's because she doesn't have any rings at all. The eyes are THERE, but they're very small and deformed. She can see light/dark/shadows well, but she hunts primarily by smell. I highlighted her sibling's eye as well, so you can see the difference.

Here's another pic, this one's a little better. It also shows that she's definately not melanoid, as she has gold on both her mouth and gillstalks, but it's very reduced.

Do they still act the same as other axies? I've seen pics of axies with no eyes at all. There are these things that are related to axies which don't have eyes and they live in underwater caves in Brazil or somewhere. It makes them look less cute than axies. I'll see if I can get a pic...

Couldn't find the pic of the eyeless axie, but I've got a pic of the Texas blind salamander. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but here:

She can see shadows, and her sense of smell is pretty good, so she has no problem finding food. She hides more than the others, but otherwise acts pretty normally.

It's not the eyeless gene, as eyes are physically present, although deformed.
