Can't tell if any of these eggs are living?
Just had them shipped. They come with a guarantee, that's not my issue... I am having difficulty telling if I am trying to hatch the un-hatchable?

From everything I read (a lot!) I think the real round, fuzzy ones are dead and growing bacteria? But the others, I guess it looks different in person... Are they really THIS tiny? :p

They were laid about 8 days ago. I also think I can identify some daphnia in there ;)
Is it possible the daphnia are trying to feed off the eggs, or just getting caught in the goo?

Any help would be appreciated. I have pics from the package to the container, but not sure what to post since it only allows me 1 pic per post ( must be an Ipad thing)

This is when they came out of the bottle they were shipped in

Some of those eggs look empty - there's no baby lotl inside. Do any of them have a black or white ball in the centre? Looks like you might have a few that are viable, you'll need to nurture them and see if they hatch - if they are 8 days old you should know in a few days as you'll see tiny larvae inside. Have a look at some pics here and on axolotl.org

They are about 10mm (less than 1/2 inch) when they hatch, you'll need to be ready with some BBS within 24 hours if they do.

Hmm!. The little grey bodies look like they might be outside of the jelly part of the egg?
Is that the case, or do you see little elongated grey bean type things inside the jelly of the eggs?

Well, I was able to identify about 15 little bodies with no goo

I don't think the couple left have a chance, but I will see what they look like day to day to make sure... I have them in shallow, clean, cool water with a thermometer... Have the brine shrimp pellets, but it's definitely not time to hatch them yet...

I added an album in my profile if you want to see more pics.

Don't give up yet, you may get a couple still. Remove any eggs with white/ grey fluff on them as soon as you see it. The larvae that have come out of the egg will most likely go mould too .The few in the eggs should be starting to show some development.
I suspect the eggs may have been shaken too much in transit, was the water filled right to the top?

I hate to be the one to say this but from the looks of it you won't get any out of that batch. I'm not sure what happened with those ones out of the jelly, maybe they hatched in transit? but they obviously aren't okay now. With the rest it looks like you may have one or two non-moldy circles but if the rest are at the "small grey larvae" stage then it's highly doubtful that they will develop :( Where did you get the eggs from?

I agree with the above, you can tell when eggs are dead as they go kind of fluffy and expand. When they're in the early stages they are brown, grey or white solid looking circles. It's not looking good unfortunately; from the ones we can see in the pictures anyway.

Thanks for the input everyone.
The person I got them from followed the directions for shipping in a bottle on here, and it was filled to the top. It was their first time shipping, and my first time with eggs.

Only thing I can think is the bottle was a little over 3 oz instead of 8 oz with about 18 eggs? Could that just be too crowded?

Today they all have some 'fluffy' around them, or they are empty :(

We will work it out, I think I'm going to have some juveniles shipped overnight from the same person... Do you have a favorite method?? If we lose a juvie, that would be devastating

No blame, just an unfortunate accident.

Sorry these didn't make it, always a shame.

I'd use a 250ml (8oz, if you must, lol) bottle as the smallest I'd send, but you can get a lot of eggs in there and TBH it's just an easy size to get hold of. I used a couple of 330ml (11oz) for one person who just wanted all that I had left for their kid's school. They were fine with just an inch or two of clear water at the top, but they were nowhere near hatching, only being a few days old.

I shipped some of the 5 / 6" (15cm metric fans! Funny how that works for some things but not others, isn't it?) juveniles from the other thread in zip-tied Breathing Bags | Kordon (actually Kordon-like) recently. [Thank you, forum, for auto-sorting the link, I'm out of practice]
I was a little worried about them having an air pocket (not recommended) but they all arrived fine and I got great feedback.
The (dragon)lady at the post office wasn't too keen, and said, "If they get punctured it will ruin everbody else's mail!"..."Well, try not to puncture them then" being the obvious reply.

If price wasn't an issue I think I'd use taped-up rubber-sealed tupperware (Rubbermaid?) but that brings its own problems. Again, I'm sure others will know better than me for shipping that will take more than a day.

I'd guess they were probably shipped too late (in the last few days before hatching rather than the first few).

Good luck with the juvies though!

Thanks guys...
Great info.
Quentari, the eggs were only 8 days old...

Vesp and I are trying again from a new batch of eggs... I started another thread for help :D

That's odd, might be warmer temp made them mature quicker. My eggs didn't look like axies at all until WAY after the 8 day mark. Nevermind me then :)
