Hello everyone,

I was unsure of what forum to put this in, so apologise if this is incorrect?

Because of the beautiful weather me and my chum decided to go to Great Yarmouth Beach.
As a fishy nerd I begged to go to the Sea Life Aquarium they have there, and I was more then chuffed when I found out they had an axolotl tank. *Hurrah!!*
Especially as The Sea Life Centre is a huge chain, so more people will find out about Axies.

But I was kinda worried, they had a lovely big tank, dark lighting and it was nice and cool, but they had gravel and some of them were looking a little worse for wears... Am I just being a dramaqueen or should I actually bring this up with them, considering most of them know what to do with aquatic life and will just think I'm stirring?

Argh sorry for the block of text and rambles, now for the pictures~!

This one looked the worse of, I assume it's quite old as it was HUUGE!! Compared to Penny anyway, I've never seen one so big, it makes me a little worried about how big Penny will get. :p

There was loads of different sized ones, I assume this would be a problem also, there seemed to be a lot of hiding spaces, but again compaired to the others they're bite sized.
This one was only titchy.

Another HUGE one!

The two HUGE ones and two of the smaller ones.

Oh and I found this one hiding; I barely noticed him!

Yes, the gravel is a worry, but also a major worry is the size of the smaller ones compared to the bigger ones! They definately look bite-sized!

I think it's up to you what to do, I've seen axolotls on display on gravel and I'm ashamed to say I was too shy to say anything.

Perhaps write to them or send an email?

Penny looks just gorgeous by the way ;)

Hi Mitzee,

Thank you for sharing the lovely photos. I second Kerry's idea in contacting them about your gravel concern. I think they would be appreciative. You can also include links to information about impaction and axie care. It is fantastic to see caudata members going out there, being vigilant about axie husbandry and welfare.

Cheers.

Hi Mitzee,

I say contact them about it too, I'm fairly sure it'd be through lack of education rather than anything deliberate that their Axies are in danger and they'd appreciate the assistance.

Hi Mitzee

Is that a piebald I see before me?!?! He has some fantastic colouring, irelevant!

But yes, I would definately contact them - at least you can feel that you've tried, if they do disregard what you say, however, I am sure they would take some of it on board.

Awww those are such beautiful axolotls. You should definitely contact them in some way. Would be awful for something to happen to them!
