I was up in Rabun county fishing yesterday and found quite a few caudates just casually looking. I found a few mountain duskies with their clutches, not a rare find but neat all the same. A friend of mine is keeping a small colony on display and says they make a rather good one, commonly out moving and foraging in the middle of the day.

Nicely marked animal, Russ. My Desmogs are still courting and the male(s) regularly planting spermatophores. Fingers crossed I'll find eggs soon. The D.conanti I have certainly don't make good display animals. Very timid indeed.
 
nice shot! the salamander is very camoflagued, didn't see it at first!

Are you sure about the species? Evidently there may also be D. fuscus in the same area. I'd like to use the photo on CC if you don't object.
